Gamemaster's Post
Description:

For generations we lived in content wonder beneath Mesnoth's blue wonder, we tended his sacred plants and received his wisdom and guidance. Yet as our numbers grew we became filthy and our smell reached up to his holy nose and mighty Mesnoth was not pleased. In response to our offense he sent his altar of plagues to cut into our numbers and wipe our stench from his land.

The people felt his anger and were much afraid and in their fear they prayed for mercy! And their prayers were heard. To the wise old men and women of the tribe he came with the voice of wraith scolding them for their filth and the smell of the people, their houses, the land, and the waters!

He said that if we remained filthy he would continue to destroy the filthiest of us one by one. Yet he had mercy and showed us how to clean our village and as we followed his commands the disease drew further and further from our people. Cooked food is very good, and we do NOT miss the stench of feces in our village!

Once the village was clean and our lord lord could look at us without wretching from the stench he returned with to our people and spoke to many of us, not just the honored elders. To his chosen he gave the secret of the Altar, no longer would it be a source of disease but a place where we could show our gratitude to him for all the gifts we had received. We would have rejoiced then but he also said that there were too many of us living in his shadow and that half of us should spread his word and ways to a new place he had chosen for us.

We were much afraid as we ventured forth in our canoes and pontoons with baskets of seeds and many bunches of manboo and mansa reeds to build our new homes. Yet when we came to the new place it was good. The people of Mesarai have thrived in the shade of trees. True these trees produce a pod which the children like to throw at each other for it has a fatty nasty texture like animal fat, but the elders scold them and eventually they learn to leave the pods alone and enjoy the cool shade as they should!

The most devout men of Mesina sacrifice to the gods greatness every day and it is a great show as the lord eats our offerings, we can truly feel his might. The peope of Mesarai only make the sacrifice in thanks for great events as it requires a trip, and in both cities there are those who don't bother, but Mesnoth doesn't seem to mind they still prosper.

(1) first I'm going to find a spot with sandstone deposits from which a kiln could be constructed. I know there is some in the delta and with my 20 mile area I should be able to find some.

(2) I choose a man in Mesarai and teach him the basics of working with clay. The people have been doing some of this in previous turns but I actually show him how to pinch out a pot, a plate, a clay shingle, and give him some ideas about using plant products. I show him how to make a basic kiln, and how to use plant products and minerals to color the clay as it heats. I point out specifically a plant that will give a nice blue color, and ash which can make a black.

With this I also suggest using colored shingles to make the villages walls more effective and better looking, though I caution him not to put TOO much weight on the floating walls! I also suggest using shingles to help waterproof the peoples houses.

(3) Once the people have that down I want to make a new ritual. Men and women from the village, 3 of each, must go to my altar and weave a basket shaped construction in it's exact shape. Every manboo stalk and mansa reed for this basket has to be cut on the altar and woven at night by the light of my obelisk.

Once that is done the fake altar must be hauled back to the village, placed in it's center, and tiled over with blue and black tiles. Blue like my my obelisk with black worms like my altar has writhing blue ones within it.

Finally every man, woman, and child, must use their shell hooks to cut themselves and bleed uppon the new altar asking for my favor. When this is done the altar will flash with a blue light and become twin to the one in Mesina and altar rituals can be done at it; though this one of course requires an obelisk as well to get started.

The ritual can be done anywhere at least 6 people live, but at least 6 people have to live at the site continuously year after year. If the site is abandoned for more than a year the new altar reverts to it's original form and the blood letting part of the ceremony has to be redone to reactivate it once people inhabit the site once more. This may be done on purpose if the village needs to move for some reason.

(4) I do a mass vision to let the people know about the new ritual.

(1) done, it's a free action and you find the sandstone fairly easilly.

(2) sure thing it's going to cost you 7 points because your teaching an aweful lot. A teaching vision is normally 5, that's 3.75 with your discount, 7.5 or so for what I'm equating with two complex visions, but I'm being nice and rounding it down.

(3) The ritual is fairly minor, and as you probably guessed it's even cheaper because of the limits you put on it, it can only start at Obelisk Cities/Villages, it requires habitation to keep your altar active, it requires 3 men and three women to weave the thing over a number of days, haul it back, fire up the tiles and tile it, then EVERYONE has to give a blood sacrifice to you . . . With all of that I'm going to give it to you for 2 points and no added reserve cost.

Be aware though that being able to do rituals in more than one place makes them more useful so they'll cost more in later turns. From this turn onward I'm making a seperate post to keep track of your altar rituals.

(4) the standard 9 points get that done.

Ok since I have a ton of points left and I'm going to do a few more actions this turn.

(5) I'm going to locate four good city locations in as close to a straight line from my capital as possible but at the VERY edge of my area.

(6) Then I'll tell the people of Mesina to send settlers to each one, about sixty people for each new town with knowledge amongst them of all our skills and arts. When the towns are founded they are to set up altars to me there, and they are not to LEAVE my area. Remember they will KNOW and feel uneasy if they leave my zone! I also specify that the altars should be on land bordering whater where pontoon rafts can be brought up to them if possible, I'll have chosen my city spots with that in mind.

I'll name the new settlements: Nesarith (north boundary), Ethesa (east b.), Seveda, and Weverly

(4) of course that's free

(5) That's another nine points, you've still got points to spend if you want but we're getting near the end of the week so if you want to change anything else make it quick. This should be interesting the inner delta is 21 miles square so you'll be a mile within it for each city. The people hunting will be able to look out over it's edges or even venture a bit out of it depending on the exact outline of the area, it's REALLY square.

Mesnoth's reply:

Nah I'm done if I added everything right that exactly wipes out my faith, leaving me just fear points and I don't need to do anything scary this turn.

And your right that will be interesting. The river should still continue to the east and west, but north is what . . . forested plains? And south is eventually the congo. lol
