10% The Orglott
Chosen from the hunters by the shaman, the Orglott are chosen by lot by the shamans in similar fashion to how they pick new shamans. And like the shamans they are no longer seen as a member of that family/clan, but are of the Orglott. They are the guardians of the shamans into the great dark of the spirit realm (cave), and keep the vigil fire watch at night, protecting the village from dark creatures that they only think are there, and wild beasts that are very much there.

30% Hunting Men
Men using spears taking down game, they are skilled at tracking, and are reasonable hunters for hunters of this period of time.

2% Old Women
Although they do not face the risks of hunting, childbirth related situations do thin out their numbers. but a small number do make it to older 35 age, these matrons are advisors to the clan leaders, and in many cases run the place when the hunters are out stabbing things, and they are a vast source of knowledge.l

The Science Page
Standard Info For This Sheet

[This setup has ended up with just two main groupings, both rather large. But one more united and starting to try to call upon gods in the great dark now that they have a weapon to combat darkness with the invention of fire.... and the other smaller groups united in their hatred of most other groups, because great great great great uncle bob was insulted by that groups great great great grandma Joan by refusing the uncles exchange offering at a gathering....or because someone looked at someone funny, or someone called a child a rude name, or..at this point, hating each other is such a habit, it not take that much to have a good excuse. ]

~Specus~
The Specus are a based on the group/tribe that was historically in this region

Everyone
Technology all specus have access to.

  • Language & Social
These are the common social and linguistic skills that bind the Specus together as one people and which have held their technological progress together as a single tech grouping

Specus language (10), Patriarchal clan system (10), shaman council/The Orglot (15), mythology of the caves of darkness (5)

[the Specus language is a tonal language and analytic language that might be ancestral to chinese or classical Tibetan. The placement of a word in a sentence, and the tone that is spoken with matter.]

[The clans are patriarchal in nature, and really are a group of family groups that live with each other ok, and manage well. The overall leaders however, and the revolvers of inter clan disputes is the council of shamans. Instances of interclan disputes/issues are very common, and only the judgments of the shamans who are thought to be in touch with the knowledge of the universe due to their ability to traverse the realm of spirits, and mastery of fire so they may commune with the spirits. The shamans take all who they decide are called to master the darm realm of the spirits, male or female. Who they take is based on omens, portents and intuition. This group is the ones who unify the clans, and explain the universe, and aid the groups by beseeching upon the spirits with their messages they pain on the walls in the very home of the spirits themselves deep in the caves.]

[The shaman council rules, heals, and performs rituals inside the caves. Meanwhile the orglot are not shamans, but those chosen by the shamans to be warriors of the darkness. They serve as bodyguards to the shamans into the caves, as well as being stationed with weapons at night to protect the people from rouge spirits. (They keep the wild beasties at night from eating people). The orglot sleep almost all day, the times the shamans and them go in the caves is almost always sunrise, when the dark is flowing back in. Their life is night watch, guarding shamans in the caves, and training late afternoon/evening.]

[As this group is starting with a mythology, a rare situation due to being based on an early spiritual group, they are starting with an actual, but primitive set of myths. It is not that rich and varied yet, but mainly boils down to: The spirits of power live in the dark, and must be appeased and can be called upon for aid, but their domain of darkness is deadly and dangerous without light, like the light created by torches fueled by the power of fire that only the shamans know. At night the torch in the sky sets, and the domain of the spirits encompasses the earth, and the threats of night time are out and about. In short, light conquers dark, but dark hold power, might and mystery and will always have cycles of ascendancy and waning, just like night and day. They do not worship the light, or see it as a power to call upon, but as the only way to safely tread in the spirits realm.]

[The order they have going on right now, depends a lot on the respect the people have for the shamans. Issues and appearances of strife in the council easily cause havoc. Anything that upsets the respect for the shamans would likely bring the interclan issues to a horrific head... so far the shamans have kept a fairly united front..]

Also, the sanitation is not fantastic, with the classic idea of water being used for drinking bathing and shitting is all the same stream.
  • Construction
These are the technologies used by the primitive Specus to build their villages and store food.

Stone Axes (15), rough wood structures (10), Solar Meat Drying (5), Woven Baskets/mats (15)

[Stone axes are the basic universal tool of the people, they use them for defense, to cut wood, and to help build their homes and provide firewood for the shamans and orglott.]

[Specus archetecture is Rather spread out, with primitive buildings of many different designs and setups, each family doing their own thing. the only uniform structures are the watchposts of the orglot. The are dirt cicrles layered with stones, with a hole where a long handled torch is set at night, guarded by an pair of orglot with one handheld torch and a stone knife each, sleeping in shifts, to protect the people from animals, and the horrors of the spirits darkness. ]

[Although the Specus have fire, cooked meat is unheard of. Fire is the secret of the Shamans. (See the secret tech section). Also, their meat drying is salt and sun power only, so not nearly as good as they could have with their knowledge of fire.]

[Woven baskets are used to hold stored food and personal possessions. Matting attached to a wooden framework makes up the roof and some of the walls for the homes, plus to block doorways.]
  • Hunting, Fishing & Gathering Technologies
These are the technologies used by the people to feed themselves.

Jungle tracking/local animal lore (10), Stone Knives & Scrapers (5), Stone Spears (10),

[The speccuss have many very skilled trackers who can find all manner of creatures in the jungle, spears are the main weapon for hunting. ]

[Just a side note, the conflicts/issues between the clans are seldom resolved with blows, although they have knives and do all manner of crafts with them, their is little close combat training or skill amongst them. At spear range they are pretty good though, just not knife fighters.]

Secret Tech (Shaman)
These are the technologies kept secret to the shamans of the Specus, for assorted reasons.

  • Fire & Medicine
Local Herb knowledge (10), Fire: Sacred(15), Tatooing (15)

[The jungle is loaded with all manner of usefull/dangerous plant. The speccuss have a reasonable level of herb lore, for minor medical treatment. This knowledge is limited to the shamans who treat the sick and help them against the powers of darkness that are causing disease in their world view. Why is this secret?: They do not have germ theory, and have the idea that sickness/illness/poisons re the works of spirits, and the knowledge of how spirits work and how to handle them is of course, the SOLE realm of the shamans and the Orglott. Shamans have the most knowledge but as they cycle through the villages the orglott also perform the equivalent of first aid to those who need it.]

[Although the Specus have fire, cooked meat is unheard of. Fire is the secret of the Shamans, and is seen as the holy key to combat the darkness in the sacred caves, and against the dark veil of night, as they believe that night is the dark of the caves taking over the land for a time when the torch in the sky(sun) sets. As such, fire is used for warmth, and light only, as it is a sacred tool to be able to withstand the dread dark both at night, and to enter the might temple caves and give messages directly to the spirits. So, they are having no bonuses from having cooked meat, or any other fire tech not related to warmth and light.]

[Why is it secret?: Fire is seen as a magical/sacred instrument of power. Only the worthy should be playing with such power, it is to protect the uninitiated/prepared. The specification of fire: sacred as opposed to just fire is meant to indicate that there are steps, and knowledge included in this tech that technically are not needed to start and use fire safely. but include primitive ritual involving calling forth the sacred tool. Fire use here also includes use of torches as weapons at night, and knowledge of where to place torches and torch bearers so as to provide an even amount of lighting for the village.]

Tattooing is an offshoot of herbal medicine using herbal dyes and a bone needle to mark the skin of these special people. Once your in the orglott or become a shaman you are one for life and these special markings in red and black make the membership distinctly visible to everyone for life.]

~Kedad~
The Kedad are displaced tibetian grouping, pushed east due to invaders from the west.

Everyone
Technology all Kedad have access to.

  • Language & Social
These are the shared language and social technology of the Kedad peoples.

Kedad hodge podge of related languages (5), Kedad Diplomatic/trader language (15) Patriarchal Despotism (10), Kedad Slavery (5)

The kedads language is actually the remnants of many different language groups belonging to a large number of people that were forced this direction many years ago. There are some common terms, but there is also great distinction between the different groups. There WAS a period awhile back where the tribes were mainly unified under one group before that all collapsed. One of the remnants of that time is the trade/diplomatic language. Over time the universal language is becoming more prominent and the individual languages have been becoming more simple often with people slipping into the trade language whenever certain concepts are needed.

The kedad are led by the males, specificly each tribe is led by a despot who proves their superiority and rules iwth an iron fist. in theory one can challenge the leader in mortal combat for leadership. in practice, the leader tends to weed out any real threat. meaning whenever a tribes rule dies there can be issues of succession. Many large tribes have split into smaller tribes, and fallen tribes have absorbed into others when this happened. Sometimes the transition is fairly smooth, and someone takes up the reins who was close to the top, but this system does result in a lot of chaotic silliness whenever a leader goes belly up.

[The kedad spend a lot of their time raiding other tribes for food, resources, and slaves. They have the basic technology to put people to work in their villages and keep them imprisoned in stone basements.
  • Construction
These are the technologies used by the primitive Kedad to build their villages and store food.

    underground stone cellars(10), Wooden City Walls(15), earthen hut(10), Traps/snares/pits(10)
  • Hunting, Fishing & Gathering Technologies
These are the technologies used by the people to feed themselves.

    Rice Harvesting(10), Stone Knives & Scrapers (5), Stone Spears (10), Local Animal Lore/tracking (10)

Secret techs: Arminshians
These are the secret technologies of the neutral group known as the arminshians. These people live on their boats and serve as story tellers, emissaries, and traders between the constantly warring villages of the Kedad peoples.

  • Water based traveling bards
Wicker Boats (15), primitive clay records (5), Storytelling (10)

In human history in the ancient world, rivers were the highways. Good solid reed boats make travel for long distances with assorted goods and valuables not just possible, but profitable!
Why is this secret: This tech is not exactly secret to the ArminShians, but the knowledge is not traded with others, as their boats not only give them a trading edge, but are a key to the culture that they identify as. Boats are something the Arminshians have, not for outsiders.

Now, their clay records are nowhere near as complex as cuneiform tablets, yet. In time they likely would be, but they are enough to keep track of who owes what, and needs what. Such records allow for more flexibility in their trading practices. Still very primitive, but has started to grow out of the same forces that caused cuneiform to arise, the need to keep records of large amounts of stuff over time.
Why is this secret: They are good merchants, and no merchant is going to sacrifice an edge in business deals willingly. This is also used to keep crude track of the various relationships and deals that are ongoing between villages so as to ease the peoples role as diplomats and neutral emissaries.

[A big part of the reason that the arminshians are welcome everywhere is that they carry news, stories, and so forth. Sometimes the stories are told by one person, sometimes by a group in what amounts to almost acting, always the story is pitched to what the listener wants to hear, with the records helping the arminshians to remember who NOT to make the good guy when telling a story in a village.]
